He's forced to work as a slave on the ship, but he uses his charm to get his freedom and escape with Maria. After finding the treasure, Edward returns home and reflects on his journey. He realizes that he's become more ruthless than ever before and decides to change his ways. He resolves to use his skills for good instead of evil.
